Dukes Lane and Market
THE DESIGN PROBLEM
Plans for a new Waikiki eatery were being drawn. They needed a name, and then a brand.
THE DESIGN SOLUTION
After extensive travel, Chef Kelly “Ono” Degala’s dishes were infused with worldly flavors, but his local heritage remained intact underneath it all. Basalt, the foundational volcanic material of the Hawaiian Islands, is the name of the porous black rock that underlies all else here. The logo attempts to express this via its heavy serifs and baseline emphasis. Its hues across menu applications vary, representing the coloration of cooling molten lava.
